The Other Bar

The Other Bar recently came up in correspondence with a Member of the California State Bar.  If you are an attorney struggling with recovery, I highly recommend you check out their available resources.

The Other Bar describes itself as follows:

The Other Bar is a network of recovering lawyers and judges throughout the state, dedicated to assisting others within the profession who are suffering from alcohol and substance abuse problems. We are a private, non-profit corporation. Our organization is founded on the principle of anonymity and provides services in strict confidentiality. The program is voluntary and open to all California lawyers, judges and law students. Our consultants and volunteers stand ready to assist their colleagues in all areas of recovery.

The Other Bar is not a 12 Step Program, although many meetings follow the 12 Step model. Meeting formats are based upon the group conscience. All recovering lawyers, judges, and law students are welcome, regardless of their particular recovery model: 12 Step, medical, therapeutic, religious, secular, etc.

Visit The Other Bar online, and check out their incredible number of options for seeking assistance.  They have online meetings, in person gatherings, retreats, and a 24-hour hotline at 1-800-222-0767.
