I saw this quote today and immediately thought of my work as a State Bar defense attorney. Litigation always involves looking backward, and I think that is part of why it’s exhausting for the litigants. We are so much better off moving forward in all aspects of our lives, and when we are not only looking back but spending a significant amount of time analyzing and arguing about the past, it’s really tiring.
Since spending time on yesterday is unavoidable when there’s a State Bar complaint against you, it’s important that you deal with it swiftly and get it resolved as soon as possible so that you can move forward. The California State Bar is taking steps to make quick resolution a reality, too, as it streamlines its processes and works to eliminate its backlog. In fact, in its most recent annual report, the Bar explained the steps it is taking to try to meet the goal of Business & Professions Code section 6140.2, which is to have no more than six months elapse from the filing of a complaint by a client to either (a) resolution of the matter or (b) filing of charges by the Office of the Chief Trial Counsel. Attorneys subject to investigation can help move the process forward by responding completely and in a timely manner to all State Bar investigations. Spend less time on yesterday so you can move forward!
